Sac Press Club Luncheon: Press Secretary Bill Burton

Presented by Sacramento Press Club at The Courtyard

With the California primary just months away, the Sacramento Press Club is pleased to welcome Bill Burton, a renowned strategist who has served as an adviser to political leaders, celebrities, CEOs, corporations and nonprofits in California, Washington, D.C., and around the world.

Bill was one of the first hires on President Obama’s first presidential campaign, where he was the national press secretary beginning in January 2007. He served in the Obama administration as deputy White House press secretary and special assistant to the president. In that capacity, he traveled extensively, both domestically and internationally, advising the president, managing media strategy and dealing directly with the press corps in in the White House briefing room and on Air Force One. He co-founded the leading Democratic super PAC and served as senior strategist to the PAC, which was a leading force in the president’s reelection.

During the 2006 election cycle, in which Democrats won control of the House of Representatives, Bill worked as Rahm Emanuel’s communications director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Before that, Bill served as a communications adviser to Rep. Dick Gephardt, Sen. John Kerry and Tom Harkin, and others.

Most recently, he joined former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz to help him shape a possible presidential run.

Join for Burton's take on the California primary, the possibility of an independent bid for the presidency, and election trends.
