NOTE: The Crocker Art Museum is temporarily closed to the public, and all programs, tours, classes, and events through April 30 have been postponed or cancelled. This is a proactive measure to preserve the health and well-being of their visitors and staff and to support the city of Sacramento’s ongoing efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Before the screening, enjoy an in-depth, docent-led tour of select works in the Crocker’s permanent collection to help put the film in context with the art.
The Artist takes an admiring look at the silent film stars who were forced to evolve as synchronized sound entered Hollywood and “talkies” took over the screen. Seasoned silent actor George Valentin must learn a few new tricks from the up-and-coming Peppy Miller as the two navigate the technical innovation that would change movies forever. Winner of multiple Golden Globe and Academy Awards, including for its original score, this pleasurable homage to the silent film era offers an entertaining comedy-drama full of charm.
