Join wildlife photographers Eden Halbert and Lynne Edwards for a free two-hour inspirational and educational presentation of wild horse photography, as they share the stories behind the images of these iconic symbols of the spirit of the American West, and of wilderness, and discuss how to photograph them.

Through lecture, slideshow, and Q&A there will be in-depth exploration of topics ranging from the technical aspects of photographing wild horses, to the personal stories behind the photographs, to the work being done today to preserve these important American symbols. Domesticated horses are familiar to most people, but many are surprised to learn that wild horses still roam on some of our public lands. They will also briefly touch on how wild horse photography differs both from other equine photography and other wildlife photography.

Eden will present photographs and stories spanning over six years of photographing horses in the desert, the mountains, and on the Atlantic coast, with a special focus on her favorite herds in Utah, which she has tracked and observed over several years.  She is one of a small handful of photographers licensed by the Bureau of Land Management in Utah to guide other photographers to view and photograph wild horses. She will discuss the current plight of wild horses, and the dwindling opportunities and increasing difficulty in photographing them, as well as what drew her to photograph them.

Eden will be joined by Lynne, an award-winning wildlife photographer who traveled with Eden to Utah to experience photographing wild horses, and brings her own unique vision to her work and her advocacy. Her extensive experience photographing all manner of wild and endangered animals across the globe allows her to add valuable context and knowledge to the discussion.

Eden Halbert is a well-known equine and wildlife photographer living in Placerville, California with her two Siberian huskies, but traveling frequently nationally and internationally to photograph whatever inspires her. She uses her knowledge of animal behavior to create both deeply personal and natural portraits of her animal subjects as individuals, while also evoking their larger symbolic or iconic nature.  Her work has been featured in regional juried art shows, as well as regional publications such as Sacramento's prestigious Comstock’s Magazine.  Eden has been a member of Gold Country Artists Gallery since 2017.

Lynne Edwards is an award-winning photographer from El Dorado Hills. She won Best in Wildlife Category in the 2017 Annual Julia Margaret Cameron International Competition for Women Photographers with “The Chase,” her photograph of a cheetah in full pursuit. Lynne has been a member of Gold Country Artists Gallery since 2014.
