UPCYCLED: Turning Waste into Art Online Kids Camp

UPCYCLED: Turning Waste into Art Online Kids Camp

Presented by Verge Center for the Arts at Online/Virtual Space

What happens to your cereal boxes, used papers, and plastic bags after using them once? Where does it go?

We live in a time where carbon emissions have skyrocketed within a single decade, about 8 million tons of plastic and other non-degradable waste enters our oceans every year, and entire ecosystems vanish due to human-caused practices, such as deforestation, commercial fishing, and overconsumption. It is time we stand together for each other and for our planet. Even during this unprecedented time when we are all at home, there is so much we can do to help our Earth.

The UPCYCLED! Summer Camp program is designed to engage kids in eco-friendly art projects that encourage creativity, self-expression, and resourcefulness. We will use many nontraditional supplies to make art, such as recycled paper, plastic bags, food coloring, tissue paper, and more items you may already have at home! Lessons are also designed to introduce art concepts, such as color theory and composition. Alongside making fun projects, kids will participate in daily eco-talks, which give them a chance to learn more about their environment, how to reduce waste on a daily basis, and how to develop an earth-conscious mindset. The ultimate purpose of this class is to teach kids that no one is too small to make a difference or have an artistic voice in the fight against climate change.
