Photograph Your Art (Advanced)

Photograph Your Art (Advanced)

Presented by Verge Center for the Arts at Online/Virtual Space

Having to photograph your own artwork can be a daunting and time consuming task, especially when consistent, good quality images are required for printing and publications. Smartphone photography can often suffice using most digital platforms, but it lacks the flexibility in post-processing and reproducibility in the prints. Digital cameras can provide a wider range of options. Similarly, a DIY lighting setup can achieve good results for a number of projects but it does not provide the same level of intensity, nuanced control and durability that professional equipment is able to deliver.

In this two-hour live online class you will learn the fundamentals on how to photograph various types of artwork and get the most out of your current photography equipment. The class will cover various lighting techniques for 2D and 3D work, including hard to photograph objects such as glass, jewelry and other works with reflective surfaces. You will also learn the ways to capture the most accurate color of your work, and how to choose and operate continuous lights and strobes, the two types of lights most commonly used in photography studios. Muzi will also provide you with a list of essential tools to set up a home photography studio and offer recommendations on budget, mid-range and high-end equipment.
