Intro to Curating Culturally Diverse Exhibitions and Projects

The class will go through concepts in cultural diversity in art institutions and projects, how to diversify as an institution, artist, and arts administrator. All registrations include an e-copy of the Guide to Curating Culturally Diverse Exhibitions. 30% of the proceeds from this class will be donated to the DACA RENEWAL FUND.

Registration is sliding scale, pay what you can. Make sure to register with an email you check often because that is the one that will be used to communicate the materials and zoom link.

Aida Lizalde is a Mexican-born artist and arts administrator based in Northern California. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts and a Minor in Art History from the University of California, Davis. She is a member of Axis Gallery and worked at Verge Center for the Arts as an Educator.

Lizalde’s curatorial and social practice projects include B.R.E.A.D. (Backing resources for emerging artists democratically), an experimental fundraiser organized by Placeholder Magazine that provided a grant for The Cambodian Experience: Our Journey to America Exhibit, THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU, a group exhibition that engaged the Sacramento community in a discussion about colonialism at Axis Gallery, and the California State University, Sacramento College of Arts and Letters Faculty Exhibition. She also curated and published visual arts content for Placeholder Magazine from 2016-2017 and has self-published “A Guide for Navigating Cultural Appropriation” and “A Guide to Curating Culturally Diverse Exhibitions.”

She has been a recipient of the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship, Young Space Grant, the Hopkins Endowment for Studio Art Students, the Crocker Kingsley Art Award, and the Herb Alpert Scholarship for Emerging Young Artists.
