Fundamentals of Landscape Painting

Presented by Sacramento Fine Arts Center at Online/Virtual Space

Explore Landscape painting using minimal tubes of paint for maximum color effectiveness. Participants will work with color mixing and compositional ideas utilizing a photo reference of their choice or one provided by instructor to create paintings that capture the richness, depth and space of a landscape scene.

Participants are welcome to add in other colors and materials of their own choice but Patris will demonstrate the possibilities and limitations of using a limited palette of color and the variety of results possible with this approach.

This workshop is designed for beginning level artists who want to explore basic concepts of landscape painting using a limited palette of 4   colors, plus white. Topics include color mixing and theory, landscape composition and ideas, palette management, and  creating depth in the landscape,.

The workshop includes instructor demos, class exercises designed to build fundamental painting skills and concepts, guided practice and individual online assistance.  Participants will have the opportunity to develop and finish 1 to 2 paintings over the course of the workshop.

Patris will be demonstrating in oils, using a limited palette, and safflower oil, and/or solvent free gel as an alternative to using odorless minerals spirits
