Art for the Soul celebrates several African American artists, each influenced by various cultural traditions. There is no single artistic genre for the African diaspora that extends through Europe and the Americas via the long history of the slave trade. Traditional art crafts by these artists include quilting, weaving, basketry, woodcarving, painting, brick making, jewelry, sculpture, and pottery.
Modern artistic expression represents a broadening beyond African influences and includes everything from painting, murals, film, and photography to the digital arts.
Most of the artists presented will invite the viewer into the soul of their art, sharing their inspiration and creative process via short videos on this website, as well as descriptions of selected works available for sale during the month of February 2021.
