Matika Wilbur (Swinomish/Tulialip) founder and creator of Project 562 is one of the nation’s leading photographers.

Project 562 is her multiyear photography project in which Matika has journeyed 400,000 miles to capture images of Native Americans from more than 500 sovereign nations, visiting and photographing Indigenous folks from all 50 states along with South America and New Zealand. The result is an unprecedented repository of images and oral histories that accurately portrays contemporary Native Americans and Indigenous peoples.

Project 562, with intense and widespread media attention, including that of a variety of major publishers, will when completed produce a fine arts book, curricula, a documentary, and blog.
