Film Series: The (Un) Expected City

Film Series: The (Un) Expected City

Presented by Crocker Art Museum and Sacramento Area of Museums (SAM) at Online

There’s an oft-spoken truth about the relationship between creatives and the cities in which they reside -- it's reciprocal. Influence and inspiration course back and forth: Bowie’s Berlin years, Betye Saar’s LA, and Fran Lebowitz’s adopted hometown of New York City. Sacramento is no different.

Curated by local filmmaker Dan Janos, The (un) Expected City presents five short films by local creatives on the 916 they inhabit. From April 15 to 18, visit the Crocker’s blog, The Oculus, each day for a new film that winds its way through parts familiar and hidden in Sacramento.

Then, on Saturday, April 17, tune in to YouTube and Facebook Live for a special screening of Primero, Sueno and hear from filmmaker Andres Lira and City Film Commissioner Jennifer West, as well as Cultural and Creative Economy Manager Megan Van Voorhis about their work and plans for art and film in the City of Trees. The (un) Expected City is a collaboration between the Crocker, the Center for Sacramento History, the City Film Office, and the Office of Arts and Culture.
