Botanical Illustration for Experienced Beginners

Botanical Illustration for Experienced Beginners

Presented by Crocker Art Museum and Sacramento Area of Museums (SAM) at Online

Immerse yourself in the world of botanical illustration. Equipped with handouts, demonstrations, and the help of a master gardener and certified botanical artist, participants will learn the skills needed to draw exacting illustrations and carefully examine a wide variety of flora. The workshop culminates with a fully developed two-page composition: a rich start to a professional portfolio.

Ellie Yun-Hui Tu grew up in Taiwan and later studied in Paris, France. She holds a Botanical Art Certificate from Filoli Gardens in Woodland, California, and currently works as a botanical illustrator, educator, and translator in Ventura, California. Her most recent work is a series of pen-and-ink illustrations of native plants for Channel Islands National Park guide books. Her paintings have been shown in California Islands Symposiums, Flora of the National Parks exhibition at the U.S Botanic Garden in Washington. D.C., and the Huntington Library, among others. She gives talks and botanical illustration workshops in Southern and Northern California, and has been sharing her artistic and botanical knowledge with the community as a Channel Islands National Park volunteer since 2012.
