Hero for the Homeless Virtual 5k Walk/Run

Presented by Joshua's House Hospice at Online/Virtual Space

Local nonprofit, Joshua’s House Hospice for the terminally ill homeless, is excited to hold its Be a Hero for the Homeless Virtual 5k Walk / Run again in 2021! Set for September 1-15, runners and walkers from the greater Sacramento community, and beyond, are encouraged to join in. Each registrant can choose their course and means of completing the 5k. They merely need to register completion of the 3.1 miles by end of day on September 15, 2021. It really couldn’t be easier to do something fun and healthy, all while raising funds for a worthy cause!

Registrants are encouraged to involve family, friends, and colleagues - walk or run together, or even challenge each other. Teams can be established under any group makeup, and fundraising pages can be created under these categories: Workplace, Friends & Family, or Competitive Teams. Why not take the challenge? Registration for the 5k is $45 per person (plus $5 for t-shirt shipment, pickup is also an option with pickup date / location TBA) through August 31st, and $55 per person thereafter through September 15.

Joshua’s House Hospice will be the first facility of its kind on the west coast to serve terminally ill homeless men & women. It will provide for those who would otherwise suffer on the streets and riverbanks in Sacramento by giving them shelter, care, and compassion during their final days. The organization has purchased manufactured homes that will make up Joshua's House Hospice Village. Currently they are working diligently to finalize arrangements on a property location. That is where the Be a Hero for the Homeless Virtual 5k comes in! The fundraising goal is $100,000, all of which will go toward furnishings for the campus that is set to open in late 2021. Items needed for the Village range from refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers, hospital beds, to clothing, food, personal items and much more. These supplies are crucial to the success of Joshua's House Hospice.

The organization is a 501c3 nonprofit and has the support of Sacramento Mayor Darrel Steinberg, Congresswoman Doris Matsui, Sacramento City Council member Jeff Harris, and many other local dignitaries. Health partners include Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, UC Davis Health, and Dignity Health.

Each participant will receive an official entry to the Virtual 5k, a “Be a Hero for the Homeless” t-shirt, and a virtual bib (printable).
