Sacramento painter Shirley Hazlett opens her Sacramento art studio. Hazlett invites visitors and consistent with Sacramento requirements, she and all visitors will be wearing masks and socially distancing. Her studio is in Hollywood Park, south of Sacramento City College.

Well known in the Sacramento community for her engaging and uplifting abstract artworks, Hazlett will be featuring paintings on silk -- miniature, medium and large sizes. She also will be making available original watercolor cards, suitable to send or frame, and very large format encaustic monotypes.

Painting with acrylic on stiffened silk was a unique process Hazlett developed while completing her MFA degree at the San Francisco Art Institute over a decade ago. She recently learned to create encaustic monotypes, a fascinating process aligned with her natural art inclinations. These paintings and monotypes, seen in her Hollywood Park, Sacramento studio, reference calm and beauty in the natural world, abstractly conveyed. A bit of flowing energy too!

Perhaps you’ve seen her suite of silk paintings, Gathering Strength, permanently exhibited in the main lobby of the UC Davis Cancer Center, near Shriner’s Hospital in Sacramento?
