Please join St. John's Lutheran Church to hear organist Lauma Akmene perform beautiful music. Lauma became Director of Music Ministries at Davis Lutheran Church in February of 2020. Her program on the majestic Bedient organ will feature music by J.S. Bach, Olivier Messiaen, and several women composers, including Clara Schumann and Florence Price. One of Lauma's passions is advocating for female composers and composers of color, frequently performing their music at worship services and in concert.

A native of Ogre, Latvia, Lauma often includes music by Latvian composers in her programs. For this concert, she will also play Pēteris Vasks' monumental work, Viatore. Lauma has performed in several countries. She holds a Masters of Music, Organ Performance, and Church Music from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and a Bachelor of Theology and Church Music from Luther Academy in Riga, Latvia. Her other interests include travel, hiking, art, and yoga.
