Around 1630, the Flemish artist Anthonie van Dyck began creating portraits of dozens of public figures such as Hapsburg rulers, famous artists and humanists, countesses, and princes among them. Based on a recent gift of prints from this series, this course examines print techniques through Van Dyck's collaborations with engravers, history through the lives of his cultured sitters, and art history through Van Dyck's artist friends represented both by their portraits and by their works featured in the Crocker's collection.
