Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom Reception

Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom Reception

Presented by California State Library at California State Library

Join the California State Library for the annual celebration of Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. The Emancipation Proclamation, which ended slavery in the United States, was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. The Juneteenth Reception serves as Sacramento’s premiere Juneteenth kick-off event.

The event features Voices of Our Elders video series information, food prepared by Sacramento Juneteenth Black Chefs Collaborative, exhibits recognizing local elders, music by Untitld, special presentation by Gary Kurutz, Former Executive Director, CA State Library Foundation and Special Collections Librarian Emeritus, CSL.

Note: Event will take place in the Garden at the Library.
