Pocket/Greenhaven Fourth of July Parade

Pocket/Greenhaven Fourth of July Parade

Presented by Councilmember Rick Jennings at Pocket-Greenhaven Neighborhood

The Fourth of July Parade has been a mainstay celebration in the Pocket/Greenhaven community since 1994. Beginning in 2019, the theme for the festivities became “Unity in Our Community!” as the event brings together the many diverse people, businesses and community organizations who make the Pocket/Greenhaven neighborhood such a special place.

The parade features a wide variety of hand-crafted floats and participants including local businesses, youth groups, volunteer organizations, community organizations, school clubs, and musical groups. This year, the parade follows the tried and true route: from YPS Academy (the old Lisbon School) on South Land Park Drive, up Windbridge and finally a right turn on Pocket Road ending at the entrance to Garcia Bend Park.

Based on extensive feedback from 2019 participants and spectators alike, this year there will be no performances at the reviewing stand during the parade. This is easier on the classic cars who do not like to idle, as well as the children marching who also might struggle to stand and “idle”. This change also allows a smooth progression of the parade throughout the entire route to Garcia Bend, and enhances the enjoyment of spectators who line the 1.2-mile route.
