The Crocker Art Museum’s Movies Off the Wall series returns this summer! Inspired by Wayne Thiebaud: A Celebration, 1920-2021, the series explores the Sacramento region through a quirky mixture of films featuring local filmmakers, actors, and locations. Movies are screened en plein air in the Museum’s outdoor courtyard against the Teel Family Pavilion’s iconic architecture. Arrive early for trivia, giveaways, and film-related activities.
Based on a true story, Notorious Nick charts the inspirational rise of Nick Newell through the mixed marital arts ranks. Born with a congenital amputation of his left arm, Newell dreamt of being a fighter. After suffering the loss of his best friend Abi Mestre, who introduced him to MMA, in a tragic motorcycle accident, Newell is presented with an unexpected opportunity. Filmed on location in Sacramento and neighboring Jackson, the project is helmed by local director Aaron Leong and produced by locals Howard Burd and Mark S Allen. Notorious Nick is high-octane drama and more than just a slugfest – it's a story about the fight for a dream. Notorious Nick is presented by City Film Commissioner Jennifer West.
