Bienvenidos A Cesar Chavez Park

Bienvenidos A Cesar Chavez Park

Presented by City of Sacramento and Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California and Casa de Espanol and Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at Cesar Chavez Plaza

Over the last three months, a group of government, community based and business organizations which include the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento, Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California, Casa de Espanol, the Sacramento Downtown Partnership, The Ernesto Delgado Hospitality Group, the Latino Economic Council of Sacramento, have been meeting at La Cosecha restaurant to discuss cultural events geared towards engaging Latino and other communities into the plaza.

For more than a century, the downtown square has been a focal point for community activities, including the Farmers' Market, music concerts, and community rallies. Cesar Chavez Park and Plaza currently stand on Old City Plaza founded in 1849.

Despite carrying the name of a significant social and political figure in the Latino community, the plaza sees very little cultural programming that celebrates their history and heritage. These organizations now seek to renew pride in the plaza and create a welcoming environment for families, friends, and couples

With that goal in mind, the Cesar Chavez Plaza revitalization stakeholder group will be hosting family days at the park with old Mexican films depicting the rich cultural history of Mexico this coming Friday, September 30, starting at 630pm. Screenings will highlight movies from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema (the 1930s through late 1950s), an era of timeless stars, legendary directors, and critically acclaimed film classics. Families and friend are encouraged to attend and spend an evening together enjoying these events
