Ask a Farmer: A Zoom Class Series

Ask a Farmer: A Zoom Class Series

Presented by Soil Born Farms at Soil Born Farms American River Ranch

Join Soil Born Farms for an inspiring presentation on a seasonal gardening topic each month. The classes will provide basic information plus time for your questions. You’ll learn tricks of the trade that will help you create and maintain a thriving edible garden. Get expert advice and learn practical strategies to grow organic nutritious food for you and your family. Zoom classes provide a basic foundation on featured garden topics and help prepare students for the hands-on skills-building workshops that will be held in-person at the farm on Saturdays. The Ask a Farmer lectures are not prerequisites to the hands-on workshops, but are recommended for a comprehensive learning experience. Beginners and seasoned gardeners will benefit.

November 8: Winter Cover Crops - Soil, biology and plants work together. This class will focus on growing specific plants to feed, protect and enliven soil and the biology in the soil. We will cover the purpose of cover crops, cover crop mixes, and planting techniques. While the class will focus on winter cover crops, we will also address strategies for integrating cover crops year-round.

December 13: Building Health Soil in Your Garden - Healthy soil is the foundation of a bountiful garden. Learn the composition of soil and how we can improve it to grow thriving plants. In this hands-on class, we will assess which nutrients and amendments healthy soils need and find resourceful ways to create flourishing crops for your home garden or family farm.
