Karlee Hormell

Presented by The Sofia at The Sofia Tsakopoulos Center for the Arts

Local Americana singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Karlee Hormell, introduces her latest solo project.

The Sacramento native has spent most of her musical career alongside her brother as one half of the local band, me and you. Together, the duo blend their folk/Americana/country roots to create a wall of sound on stage, polished by many early shows at beloved local music venues like the Shine Café and the now closed, Naked Lounge. Over the years, the siblings have shared the stage with artists like The SteelDrivers, Grizfolk, Kris Allen, Robert Ellis, and Jon Foreman, playing music festivals with acts like ZZ Ward, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real, Bastille, and Wilderado.

In 2018, the pair recorded their latest EP release, Chasing Trails, with producer Ben Tolliday (Lord Huron, Hozier) in Los Angeles which featured musicians Matt Mayhall (Aimee Mann, drums), Anna Butters (Phoebe Bridgers, bass), Aaron Embry (Willie Nelson, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, keys), and Brett Farkas (Lord Huron, guitar). While recording, Hormell finished her studies at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music and graduated in May of 2018. The Chasing Trails EP premiered shortly thereafter on July 17th.

Following the highly-anticipated release, the duo toured with Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, John Paul White, of The Civil Wars and later set out for a headlining tour in the Spring of 2019. In the same summer, the group supported Devin Dawson on the road and joined country music legend Dwight Yoakam on the West Coast.

American Songwriter premiered the band’s latest single, “S.O.L.," on February 28, 2020. Little did they know, they'd quite literally find themselves "S.O.L." in Texas following the cancellation of the famed SXSW Music Festival and tour dates globally in March of 2020.

While you can expect a me and you song or two from Hormell on January 20th, she’s spent the last few years equally rooted in her own writing separate from the band. With her soulful voice and irresistible melodies, Hormell gracefully interprets the world around her and tells it like it is in her most candid songs to date.

Karlee will be performing in our intimate venue, Upstairs at The B
