Blues and Bourbon Wednesdays: Almost Blue

Blues and Bourbon Wednesdays: Almost Blue

Presented by Swell Productions at The Starlet Room

Almost Blue is a Sacramento-based blues band performing Chicago and Texas Swing/Jump Blues, as well as some R'n'B and Rock-N-Roll. They apply their own twist to classic blues covers, and work especially hard at playing tunes not every blues band covers.

Rob Riggle: Harmonica, vocals, and musical arranger--Rob has been a musician since 1966. His first instrument was the harmonica, then started playing bass at the request of his best friend Ron Veil (now better known as the Amp Builder Uncle Spot.)

Clint Reis: Drums--Clint grew up in the era of the British Invasion and quickly became fascinated with the charismatic drummers of the British psychedelic bands. He soon began to annoy his mother with this continuous drumming on any surface at hand.

William R. Guevara: Guitar--William is a guitar player from Sacramento, self-taught and influenced by such greats as BB King and Michael Bloomfield. Experienced in other styles William has, over the decades, played pop music, rock (original), country rock, funk, fusion, pop country, and a lot of blues.

Laura Bates (Martin) Sterner: Bassist and vocalist. She did live and studio work with numerous East Coast bands and can be heard as a backing vocalist on top ten singles from the 1980s. In the late 1990’s Laura set down her bass, moved to the Philadelphia area, and recorded two albums as lead vocalist and vocal arranger with the progressive-fusion group Finneus Gauge.

Daryl Rowland: Guitar--Daryl Rowland is a blues guitar player and songwriter who’s lived on all three American coasts (New York, Los Angeles and Cleveland) and had the good fortune to play with many great musicians along the way. In NYC, he played with the Holmes Brothers and Wayne Kramer of the MC5, Johnny Winter, B.B. King and Johnny Copeland, as well as playing with Tim Capella and the gospel choir, the Jerusalem Travelers. In Los Angeles he was featured playing blues guitar on the Ellen DeGeneres show and played with many LA blues greats including Ray Bailey, Louisiana Red, Mickey Champion, Finas Tasby, James Armstrong, Cadillac Zack, Curtis “Jack” Griffen and Lucky Lloyd. His musical philosophy, “put the notes where they want to go, then shut up.”
