Dirty Cello

Presented by SBL Entertainment at The Sofia Tsakopoulos Center for the Arts

Off the road and back to Sacramento, the Dirty Cello band is back.

The Dirty Cello band is all about taking expectations of what a cello should do and doing everything else. A world traveling blues and rock band, Dirty Cello is coming back to Sacramento for their yearly performance.

“I love the cello, and I love wailing blues and shredding rock, so that’s what the Dirty Cello band is about,” says bandleader Rebecca Roudman. “We’ve ruffled a few feathers, but our audiences love to hear me shred on the cello.”

The Dirty Cello band has recently returned from tours to the UK and Iceland, where they presented their unique take on American music to audiences everywhere from large festivals to drunken pubs. Their Icelandic tour even saw a wild performance for Icelandic movie star Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir’s wedding.

“We’ll play anywhere, but love playing at the Sofia,” reports Roudman.

The band has performed at the Sofia yearly, and even did a livestream for the theater during the lockdown. Their show includes reimaginings of classic rock from Led Zeppelin, exciting takes on Stevie Ray Vaughn, and of course some of their own tunes.

“We won’t turn down a show, especially if it’s an adventure,” says guitarist Jason Eckl, “we’ve played at a nudist resort, a Scottish castle, and recently had to tape the drumset to the deck of a whale-watching boat for a literally rocking show.” During their live performances, the Dirty Cello band relates these stories and more amidst their high energy performance with a heavy hitting five piece band.

The Sofia Theater is comfortable, has easy parking, and great sound according to the band’s press materials.
