Perfect for beginners this sewing machine basics course will teach you all you need to set up and use a sewing machine, as well as how to choose the thread, needle, presser foot, and stitch type needed for your fabric and project. Gain the skills and confidence to start sewing on most conventional home sewing machines. This class is hands on - participants will create a small project to build proficiency with household machines in a learn-by-doing style.

Topics:
-How to choose the correct needle and thread based on fabric/material
-How to wind a bobbin and thread the machine
-How to instal the needle
-Which presser foot to use and foot installation
-Selecting the stitch type and adjusting tension
-Basic troubleshooting: solving common problems

Equipment covered:
-Janome sewing machine
-Textile lab

This class is Required to use the Janome Sewing Machines in the Made Studio Lab. If students have a sewing machine at home, note the type of machine so any differences can be touched on.

Please bring a fat quarter or 1/4 yard of cotton fabric. (If you are currently working on or planning a project you can bring the type of fabric you plan to use.)
