Whether on assignment or vacation, a photographer inevitably walks away from these experiences with a favorite image, which he or she cannot wait to share with others. But photographic stories are more than pretty pictures made in the same place. Taking participants beyond the one-hit wonders of experience, participants learn to define the key elements that make up dynamic picture stories.

In this workshop, you have the beautiful vineyards, people, and tasting room of Grindstone Winery to willingly assist with the pursuit of the visual story.

Through discussion and hands-on practice in the field, Farrell guides you thru the steps of thinking, looking, and doing to help students shape their narrative to visual storytelling. Students will work on their own stories, from selecting subjects and defining the story’s heart. Key elements such as establishing a “sense of place,” portraits, including environmental moments and details, are discussed with emphasis placed on the delicate interweaving of these components to create a robust body of work.
