May is Bike Month

May is Bike Month

Presented by Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates at Sacramento County

May is Bike Month helps riders swap cars for handlebars to boost community and air quality.

Individuals and organizations across the Sacramento Region are invited to enter a free month-long bicycling competition. Over $5,000 worth of prizes can be won by riding your bike. Everyone is invited to rediscover the joys of biking with support from SABA and Love to Ride

Throughout the month of May, riders are invited to create a profile at mayisbikemonth.com and join their workplace to take part in the friendly competition. All riders, regardless of whether they’re competing as part of a workplace, will earn points for each mile and day they ride, plus extra points for encouraging others to participate. These points will enter them into the prize drawings that will happen throughout the month.

The challenge website features live leaderboards showing which Workplaces are currently in the lead, as well as how individuals stack up against each other in miles, trips taken, days logged, and people encouraged.

iPhone users can download the Love to Ride app to automatically track bike rides (like a Fitbit tracks a step count). Participants can also log rides during the challenge by syncing their profile to Strava or MapMyRide apps, or manually log rides on their profile at mayisbikemonth.com.

Individuals and organizations from across the Sacramento Region are signing up for May is Bike Month and showing their support for bicycling as part of the 18th annual regional challenge. It’s a month-long campaign to encourage bicycling, foster friendly competition, and demonstrate the benefits of riding more frequently and for transportation. Participants will be eligible to win a great range of prizes, including a Yuba Fast Track e-bike, a Specialized Vado 3.0 e-bike, gift cards to REI, and much more!

May is Bike Month is open to anyone 13+ who lives or works in the six-county Sacramento Region, and is free to take part.

This year’s challenge partnership is led by Sacramento Area Bike Advocates. SABA is a non-profit organization dedicated to making the Sacramento region a safer, healthier, and friendlier place to ride a bike, whether for commuting, recreation, or exercise, for all people, regardless of race, income, or ability.

Ride anywhere, any time, and for any reason. For any bike ride in May, whether to the store, the library, or on a local trail, riders will earn points which enter them into prize drawings and help their workplace climb the leaderboards. At its core, May is Bike Month is all about encouraging people to swap cars for handlebars so they can rediscover the joys and benefits of riding first-hand.

Because there’s never been a better time to enjoy riding a bike! May is an ideal time to participate in May is Bike Month and embrace all the benefits riding a bike can bring, like supercharging your physical and mental health, reducing stress and anxiety, and making a positive impact on our environment.
