Woodland City Hall Eco-conscious Earth Month Exhibit

Presented by Photography Month Sacramento at City Hall Woodland

We’re thrilled to announce that throughout the month of April, City Hall in Woodland will be showcasing the incredible talent of eight local artists. Their captivating work will be on display in our eco-conscious exhibit, highlighting the beauty of art and the importance of sustainability.

Three of the local artists featured in this inspiring showcase are photographer Katie DelaVaughn and her children Wendell and Alma. The DelaVaughns are proud to exhibit their colorful collaborative mixed media family photographs, polaroids, gelatin prints, and the materials they resourcefully reused.

Katie DelaVaughn states, “As a photographic artist, educator, and mother, I love the process of making art with my children, Wendell (14), and Alma (8). We love to upcycle materials and get creative together, tossing out perfection and focusing on connection and expression. Bubble wrap from Christmas, yarn from a birthday present, a broken comb, a boba straw, a bao wrapper, Asian pear netting, a paper towel, flowers and leaves from our garden, ginger spice from the pantry, and a keychain of doves from a recent trip to D.C. have all been repurposed as tools and textures. We hope the creative reuse of our everyday materials inspires others, especially families and young artists, to explore the endless possibilities of visualizing art all around and within us.”

Artist Alison Borkowska also is inspired by photography and the environment around her. She shares, “I reuse materials over and over in outdoor installations. I call the process weathering- the change that happens when things are outside. I also relish in the visible decay of the environment through urbanization.” Her photography showcases street lights, sunlight, a weathered glass bottle, and rustic barn with signage.

The city hall display features unique letterpress prints by artist Rochelle Carlson, innovative painting by artists Cosme and Yvonne Munoz, and bright and thoughtful bouquets by artist and farmer florist Sarah Larkin.

Join us in celebrating environmental stewardship, imaginative art, and Photography Month Sacramento.
