Framing Nature: A Scout Is...

Framing Nature: A Scout Is...

Presented by Photography Month Sacramento at Woodland Scout Cabin

Framing Nature: A Scout Is....Camaraderie and Conservation Through the Creative Lens of the Scout Law is a youth photography exhibit that reflects the very essence of scouting values—bravery, camaraderie, and harmony with nature. Join us on an exploration inspired by the intrepid spirits of young scouts in Troop 69 and 464, in the Golden Empire Council, as they ventured into the heart of Cache Creek Nature Conservancy one March afternoon and chased totality for the solar eclipse in April, under the guidance of volunteer photography merit badge counselor, Katie DelaVaughn.

Witness as these scouts unravel the artistry of photography, discovering its profound meaning: the ability to paint with light. From mastering the nuances of aperture and shutter speeds to seizing moments frozen in time and others blurred by motion, each scout delved into the depths of creativity. They pondered the significance of the decisive moment, the magic of perspective, and the allure of composition, all while immersing themselves in the natural splendor of the conservancy.

But it wasn't just about capturing images; it was about forging bonds and cherishing camaraderie. As laughter echoed through the lush landscape, these young adventurers shared not only their photographic visions but also the values that define their scouting journey.

In the end, it wasn't just about the photographs—it was about the joy of discovery, the thrill of friendship, and the beauty of sharing what it truly means to be a scout.

In this innovative display, we honor the scout motto of "a scout is thrifty" by transforming recycled paper bags into unique frames for resourceful artwork. Each piece tells a story of sustainability, ingenuity, and the boundless imagination of scouts. We hope it inspires viewers to reflect, create and exhibit their artistic visions in accessible ways.
