This unique collection of black and white photographs captures jazz artists such as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Cecil Taylor, and Jean-Luc Ponty. Oakland will be onsite at CapRadio’s next quarterly Second Saturday Artist Reception, November 14, 2015, from 4pm-6pm. The reception will include a musical performance by jazz pianist Joe Gilman and complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres. This reception is free and open to the public.

Veryl Oakland, an international jazz photojournalist of the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s, is known for his strong collaborative projects and one-of-a-kind portraits. For this presentation, Oakland has assembled a broad cross-section of the jazz world’s most famous personalities, showcasing more than 40 classic black-and-white images of iconic jazz artists whose various styles covered the spectrum of modern music during those decades. Many of the photographs for this show have never been published.
