Sacramento Darwin Day

Sacramento Darwin Day

Presented by Sacramento Darwin Day Committee at Unknown

The Sacramento Darwin Day Birthday Gala is Sacramento's coolest, most go-to event of science and human reason, brought to you by area science advocates, civic groups and local nerds on too much coffee. This one will mark C. Darwin's 208th birthday. A science-rush like no other, Darwin Day is an annual celebration of scientific inquiry honoring of the life and work of the great Charles Darwin (b. 12 February 1809), sponsored by community and educational groups worldwide.  For the history of this mind-growing event, visit the International Darwin Day Foundation.

The event will feature Tom Suchanek. Currently, Suchanek is Scientist Emeritus with the USGS Western Ecological Research Center (WERC). Trained as a coastal marine ecologist, he was a research manager, lead scientist, and climate change science coordinator for WERC in Sacramento, CA until January 2014. He also maintains active Research Associate appointments at the UC Davis Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology and Bodega Marine Lab. He will speak on the topic of climate change.

The afternoon celebration of science includes entertainment by Mad Science. The event will close out with the singing of “Happy Birthday Dear Charlie,” followed by refreshments including the well-known Charles Darwin birthday cakes.
