Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) has grown steadily every decade and is now among the 10 largest school districts in California serving about 50,000 K-12 students and 20,000 adult education students. Within the district are approximately 3,000 teachers and 3,000 classified non-teaching employees (clerical/technical, maintenance, classroom support, nutrition, and transportation).

Sacramento City is ‘unified’ because it includes all grades from kindergarten through 12th. Along with neighborhood schools, specialized programs such as basic or fundamental, alternative schools, Waldorf methods, charter, JRROTC, international study, criminal justice, and independent study are offered.

In addition, the district believes that all children need a good start. There are many Early Head Start, Head Start and state preschools, Children’s Centers and adult education parent participation preschools. The adult education program offers a wide range of academic and vocational subjects.
