The Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus was founded in 1984 as a small social group with a purpose of creating a sense of community and support for gays and lesbians in the Sacramento area.
Since then, through musical performance and outreach programs, the chorus has grown to become an integral part of the Sacramento arts community, as well as a voice for the Gay and Lesbian Community in the greater Sacramento area. With that voice, the Chorus confronts intolerance and bigotry by providing a positive experience of the gay community. They create a safe and welcoming environment, for gay and straight men alike, who wish to share in song and fellowship.
They strive for musical excellence through musical education programs and performance and pride themselves in helping each other to perfect the music they sing. The season begins in August and ends in June. During the course of the year, there are two to three major concerts as well as many smaller outreach performances at public and private venues.
