Sacramento History Museum: Open House for Potential Volunteers

Sacramento History Museum: Open House for Potential Volunteers

Presented by Sacramento History Museum at Sacramento History Museum

The Sacramento History Museum and Alliance invites local adults interested in volunteering as docents to help teach school programs, support community events, and communicate Sacramento’s fascinating history to guests from all over the world who visit the museum and/or the Sacramento Visitors Center. At the Open House, interested volunteers will participate in a discussion about the volunteer program, enjoy a historic skit, and watch a demonstration about what to expect at school programs offered by the Museum.

To become a volunteer, no previous knowledge is needed and a background in history is not required. Once selected and a training program has been completed, volunteer docents will share early Sacramento history with an emphasis on the Gold Rush and the people who lived in the city. Often dressed in period attire, volunteer docents interact with the community inside the museum and outside throughout the Old Sacramento Historic District. Forty volunteer hours are required each year and a few of the benefits include Museum membership, discounts at the Museum store, participation in monthly meetings, and more.
