Museum of Science and Curiosity Nights: Volcanology

Museum of Science and Curiosity Nights: Volcanology

Presented by SMUD Musem of Science and Curiosity at SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity

With 28 volcanoes across the state of California, eight of them being classed as active, they routinely shape our state’s landscape. Geologists say that at least one of them will erupt again in the near future — when should we expect that?

This month’s Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC) Nights is all about Volcanology, the science of volcanoes.

Watch footage of active volcanoes erupting and exploding on the big screen in the Dome Theater. Learn about the global impact of the largest-recorded eruption since Krakatoa, which happened earlier this year — and took place underwater. Ask local volcanologists about California’s volcanoes and what role they play in the Pacific Rim’s “Ring of Fire.” Get hands-on with various types of volcanic rocks found around the state. Create your own volcano and see if you can make it erupt. Sip on the signature Volcano cocktail — after we’ve lit it on fire for you!
