Wellness Class: Using Your Ancestry to Manage Blood Sugars

Wellness Class: Using Your Ancestry to Manage Blood Sugars

Presented by Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op at Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op

Living with diabetes can be a daily challenge, and it can feel stressful and overwhelming to understand how to make changes to manage it properly. Ancestors from all cultures used food as medicine to heal the body and manage chronic conditions. In our fast-paced, quick processed food society, we’ve gotten away from using this knowledge to support our health and wellness.

As a Registered Dietitian Specializing in Diabetes, Melinda Penny-Washington uses ancestry to return us back to our roots to heal using nutrition.

In this class, you will learn how different foods affect your body, gain tools to help you stay on track and make positive, lasting changes in managing blood sugars and learn how to create a personalized meal plan that you can apply to your lifestyle.

This class is designed for people living with prediabetes, diabetes, those who have a family history of diabetes and care for those living with diabetes.

Melinda Penny-Washington — As a registered dietitian specializing in diabetes and ancestral wisdom and a guided meditation practitioner Melinda guides others in the understanding of what the body needs to heal, the connections between culture and health habits, and how to remove the subconscious blockers to achieve desired health outcomes. She uses this knowledge in supporting the health practices of her two children, and clients in clinics and in the community.
