2009 Sojo Community Fine Arts Festival

The Sojourner Truth Multicultural Art Museum celebrated its 1st Annual Sojo Community Fine Arts festival in 2003. For 6 years, this festival has increased community awareness of historical and cultural values of visual art through cultural programs, entertainment, art and food, Sojourner Truth Multicultural Art museums goal is to engage, cultivate and educate diverse audiences about the arts.

The event also enhances the community’s knowledge of art in a fun and positive environment. People of diverse ages and backgrounds’ attending the event offers an excellent vehicle for leading businesses to showcase their support for the South Sacramento community and the Arts.

Each year, STMAC features an empowering theme that embodies the legacy of the great historical leader and abolitionist Sojourner Truth. Indeed, Sojourner Truth has a lasting place in the hearts and minds of Americans who are dedicated to freedom, justice and equality. Not only did she fight for the abolition of slavery, she also fought for women’s rights. She met personally with President Lincoln and President Grant, in which she delivered her renowned "Ain't I a Woman" speech in Akron, OH, in the year 1851, Sojourner Truth, is the first historical black woman to be officially honored by the government. This year, the theme is "Words Of Truth" -A celebration of the nourishment, commitment, and self-worth of strong women.
