Pony Express Christmas Card Ride

Horse-borne mail service gallops into Old Sacramento at the Sacramento History Museum! The National Pony Express Christmas Card Ride from Folsom to Old Sacramento is happening again. Christmas greeting cards will be carried on horseback in a mochila and relayed by horse and rider. Each envelope will receive a special ink stamp showing they were carried by the Pony Express.

Deposit cards by December 5th at: Foothill Feeds, Loomis; Shingle Springs Post Office; Placerville Library and Placerville Chamber of Commerce; Folsom History Museum, Folsom; Sacramento History Museum, Old Sacramento; and Bert's Diner, Elk Grove.

      Got my envelope; thanks. I would like to suggest that you broaden the appeal to collectors by securing a pictorial postmark from the post office. Organizations are allowed to apply for and set up... Expand

      Got my envelope; thanks. I would like to suggest that you broaden the appeal to collectors by securing a pictorial postmark from the post office. Organizations are allowed to apply for and set up one-day event stations to postmark outgoing mail with a special design, such as one that could state "Carried by Pony Express" and/or include other elements that would better appeal to stamp collectors and other souvenir seekers. Having the mail jetsprayed with a "Kermit the Frog" (R) from Sacramento, CA seems somewhat disjointed. Does your event have a philatelic coordinator? Someone from a local stamp club, perhaps? A nice hand-stamped postmark would have been so much more attractive and also more historical at the same time! -- i.e. a hand-stamp postmark is what was applied to Pony Express Mail, not a jetspray. :) Thanks for the cachet, and hope to see you secure a postmark, etc. for next years event.
