It’s an exceptionally busy 2nd Saturday for those that enjoy galleries, with the main draw being Sac Open Studios — Sacramento’s annual, self-guided tour of over 250 studios in the Sacramento region showcasing emerging artists whose work wouldn’t normally be available for public viewing.
A full Sac Open Studios guide can be viewed here.
A Creative Start
Start the day off with the most emerging artist, your kids! Verge Center for the Arts takes over the west end of DOCO to create Kids Open Studios, an art studio for children to express their creativity.
Eight studios in the Curtis Park area have come together to issue a passport during Sac Open Studio’s first weekend. If you visit all eight, you can enter for a prize from Tour the Eight! Along the way, you’ll view unique styles ranging from watercolor aerial landscapes to ceramic creations including turtles, money woven into art, and more.
10 artists along Sacramento’s Broadway corridor will be showing their work throughout five studios during Sac Open Studios. As you make your way down Broadway, you’ll experience colorful and wildly different perspectives expressed in everything from painting and sculpture to jewelry and photography.
If you head east along the corridor, you can end your tour with lunch at Pangaea Bier Café, which sports a hearty collection of craft beer and a kitchen that cooks everything from bar bites to the (highly recommended) Pangaea Burger!
¡Salud! is a celebration of the Latinx community, wellness, and cultural pride. This festive art showcase will feature local art pieces, music, dance, and more while benefiting NorCal Resist, an organization that fights against immigration injustice.
Hunker down at Sutter’s Fort for the last Gather: Movies at the Fort event of the season. This family-friendly event starts the night with a DJ, drinks for the adults, an art market, and more festivities. Once the sun sets, the community can sit on the grass with their blankets and chairs and enjoy Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Zootopia with a special menu form a local Sutter District restaurant.
