Classical Hindustani Raaga and Indo Latin Jazz in concert. Musicians from around the globe create a rare combination of unique melodies in a world music benefit concert dedicated to the memory of legendary Indian sitarist, Pt. Balram Pathak. Sohini Sangeet Academy presents Pt. Balram’s son, Pt. Binay Pathak, with Abbos Kosimov, Matthew Montfort ,and Mariah Parker, in a Sacramento concert.

Uzbekhi percussionist and Doyra master, Abbos Kozimov, performs around the world with musicians including Zakir Hussain and the Kronos Quartet. Montfort, composer and leader of the group Ancient Future, is a world guitar innovator performing on scalloped fretboard guitar. Pt. Binay Pathak’s unique vocal style reflects the classical tradition of his 500 year old gharana. A recognized composer and harmonium soloist, Pt. Pathak’s passion and imagination flow through his traditional music and energize collaborations with jazz and flamenco artists. Mariah Parker, plays Indo Latin Jazz and performs with Ancient Future. A composer, pianist ,and santur player, her music is uplifting and peaceful yet passionate. Like all four musicians she has played and toured around the world.

All proceeds of this benefit concert go to the Academy’s Senior Citizen charity in Kolkata.
