Nimbus Fish Hatchery and Visitor Center
The Nimbus Fish Hatchery and Visitor Center is a place for family and fun. Come and enjoy the Nimbus Fish Hatchery and Visitor Center and, while there, enjoy the educational exhibits in the visitor center, feed the baby fish in the raceways, walk the river trail, climb on the super salmon, pack a picnic, and much more.
A brief history of the Nimbus dam:
At one time, the American River provided approximately 100 miles of stream in which salmon and steelhead could spawn and rear. When the Folsom-Nimbus project was completed in 1958, most of the spawning and rearing areas were cut off. Nimbus Salmon and Steelhead Hatchery was constructed to replace the salmon and steelhead runs that were blocked by Nimbus and Folsom dams.
