Keep an Open Mind
This 2nd Saturday kicks off Sac Open Studios for 2018! On this first weekend, studios West of Highway 99/Interstate 80 (participating locations can be seen in the Sac Open Studios Guide) will allow the community to participate in exhibitions and events special to the program.
The Verge Center for the Arts not only leads this event, but also exemplifies its uniqueness this month with its fall exhibition Koko’s Love, an immersive video installation based around an original East Asian/American-Asian-hybrid soap opera by Yoshie Sakai — you won’t see anything else like it!
Doggone Good Art
Speaking of sight, did you know it’s a common misconception that dogs can’t see color? In reality, their ability to distinguish color is merely limited compared to humans! Hopefully, this doesn’t diminish any four-legged enjoyment of Feathers and Tails at the Kennedy Gallery’s animal-loving exhibit, but maybe you can brighten a dog’s day by adopting them into your family this Saturday! The Sacramento SPCA will be present at this 2nd Saturday event — along with a full service bar — to help make your life a little more colorful!
Afterwards, you and your new furry friend can enjoy lunch down the street at the Federalist Public House in a quick celebration of Farm-to-Fork month!
Works in Progress
The Sacramento Ballet’s new artistic director Amy Seiwert brings her artistic vision to the Ballet’s 2018-2019 season. Watch them rehearse “Telling Stories” — a collection of short, narrative ballets — during this special preview at CLARA, aptly named Second Saturday at the Ballet, and gain insight into their creative process!
It’s Good to Laugh at Ourselves
A day full of perspective comes full-circle with a night full of laughs at the Art Critique Comedy Show — a roast of thrift store art finds by some of California’s best comics. You won’t want to miss this hit San Francisco show during its one night at the Sacramento Comedy Spot.
Afterwards, step outside and enjoy the last night of THIS Midtown for the season featuring Justin Martin as a headliner!
