Using works from the Crocker’s permanent collection, participants will learn the differences between artistic renderings of plants and botanical illustration, practice drawing with precision and detail using watercolor and prismacolor pencils, and create a field sketch. Instructor Ellie Yun -Hui Tu holds a diploma of product design from France. She has worked as a product designer for more than a decade before moving to the U.S. from Taiwan. Her attention to detail industrial drawing background and love for plants led her to pursue a Botanical Art Certificate at Filoli Gardens (Woodside, CA). Her botanical illustration portfolio includes pen and ink native plant illustrations for Channel Islands National Park guide books, commercial packaging and magazine illustrations. Her paintings were selected to represent Channel Islands National Park in various exhibitions, including ‘Flora of National Parks’ exhibit at U.S Botanic Garden in Washington. D.C. (2016), California Islands Symposium (2016), 19th International Botanical Congress Art Exhibition (China, 2017).
