Homeless Youth: Challenges and Emerging Solutions

Nearly 300,000 students in California were homeless in 2014. That’s more than the entire student population of Vermont, Alaska, and Washington, D.C. combined. Come hear Shahera Hyatt, director of the California Homeless Youth Project, discuss problems homeless students face, the increasing criminalization of homelessness, and an emerging solution: host homes. 

The Homeless Youth Project is a research and policy initiative of the California Research Bureau at the California State Library. The project brings youth to the policy table and informs policymakers, opinion leaders, and other stakeholders about the needs of unaccompanied homeless youth.
