Come join us for beers, BBQ and a “Big Ideas” discussion about what downtown Sacramento should be like for the people who live there.
This is the first in Solving Sacramento’s event series to highlight our diverse communities, challenging issues and innovative ways to improve quality of life in the region.
We’ll be talking with Danielle Foster, the new executive director of Capitol Area Development Authority (CADA), which manages and oversees development of properties on the Sacramento grid. Its primary goal: build fiscally, socially and environmentally sustainable neighborhoods in the Capital City.
Some notable projects in CADA’s 45-year history include opening the Capital Athletic Club, developing the R Street Corridor, and turning a former rental-car parking lot into a new retail incubator and events space called CLTRE Club.
The next big project: workforce housing, and how to build enough so that the “missing middle” of average-income employees can afford to live near their urban workplaces.
Joining Danielle in conversation will be John Vignocchi, founder of Urban Capital, who is working with CADA on workforce housing and other residential projects downtown. They’ll talk about the creative ways they’re partnering up to build housing in the City of Sac, then take your questions.
Our first “Suds and Solutions” will be at Taste Buds Barbecue in Mansion Flats, and they’ll be serving up some tasty BBQ chicken and ribs right off the smoker, with baked beans and potato salad as the sides.
ABOUT SOLVING SACRAMENTO: We’re a collaborative of nonprofit and for-profit local newsrooms, educational institutions, and community partners working together to produce and share news stories on the issues that most impact the greater Sacramento region. We launched in 2022 with one initiative: solutions to affordable housing. In 2023, we expanded our coverage area to include economic development, arts and the environment. We are raising money for resources to help us produce these stories.
