California’s agricultural fields and orchards -- particularly when observed from an aerial perspective -- can reveal textures, patterns, and rhythms that are not as readily apparent at ground level. Stein’s paintings are mostly about his interpretations and manipulations of those textures, patterns, and rhythms to create on a two-dimensional canvas what can be seen in life.
