The False Magnate

This is an adaptation of a classic Commedia Dell’Arte sketch for a virtual online performance.

A troupe of actors attempt to perform a condensed version of “the false magnate”, a (fictional) classic play. It’s the age-old story of two lovers and a miserly father (Pantalone) who refuses to let them get married since he wants his child to be married to a true magnate, a rich person, very relatable. In order to keep it interesting, they decide to shorten a 2-hour epic into 12 minutes. The show becomes an over-the-top soap opera full of crazy antics and goofball zaniness. Screwball zaniness ensues at a fast pace crashing into a very happy ending.
