The Sacramento Community Concert Association (SCCA) continues its 70th Season with an exciting program of instrumental music for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon, masterfully performed by five of Sacramento’s brightest musical stars.
The Living Sounds Wind Quintet, formed in 2013, unites the musical talents of hornist Stephen Bingen, oboist Trey Makler, flutist Bill Damian, bassoonist and composer Daniel Webster, and clarinetist and composer Laurie San Martin. This ensemble has a rich history, beginning with college friendships and evolving into a collaboration that brings classical chamber music to life. They have been featured in the Pioneer Congregational Church’s Sunday “Performances at Pioneer” Concerts and various venues across Sacramento, including house parties and weddings. Notably, their collaboration with pianist Dr. John Cozza for the Poulenc Sextet was a memorable highlight of their last performance season. The group, affected like many by the 2020 pandemic, is now delighted to return to the stage, presenting a program that showcases their collective artistry and celebrates the diverse repertoire of the woodwind quintet.
The Living Sounds Wind Quintet has been busy preparing for a fun afternoon of music to share with you all. The group has selected music that they love to play and enjoy sharing with audiences. This includes some amazing pieces written specifically for the woodwind quintet, including Franz Danzi’s Quintet in B-flat Major, Jacque Ibert’s Trois Pieces Breves and Malcolm Arnold’s Three Shanties.
In addition to these masterworks, they will play some familiar tunes ranging from Georges Bizet’s Opera “Carmen” to some marches by John Phillip Sousa, and several dances that will get you moving in your seats. Our program will take you on a musical journey over years and styles of music that everyone is sure to enjoy.
