The University Union Gallery at Sacramento State is delighted to announce its upcoming exhibition, “The Seen Iranian Woman,” a unique collaborative exhibit curated by Jaleh Naasz, MFA, featuring artwork from Sac State students, Iranian artists, poets, designers, and donated garments from alumni. This exhibition will shed light on the changing landscape of Iranian women’s fashion, history, and the struggle for human rights, inviting the community to engage with this important conversation.
Naasz, who is also a faculty member for Fashion Merchandising & Management, envisions it as a platform for uniting the local Iranian community, engaging the campus, and raising awareness about the challenges and trauma that young people in Iran face today. By combining art, history, and fashion, “The Seen Iranian Woman” offers a dynamic and engaging way to address these pressing issues. Attendees are encouraged to reflect on the broader topics of dress codes and women’s rights within their own context and consider the rapid changes societies can undergo.
The lecture on October 25 will feature opening comments by Naasz and Sahar Razavi, Ph.D. and Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Director of Iranian and Middle Eastern Studies Center plus guest speaker, Salley Roesch Wagner, Ph.D. Founding Director, The Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation, Inc. and Social Justice Dialogue Center. Performing artists include: Nariman Assadi, Shahin Shahbazi, and Natalie Nayun. The opening reception will immediately follow from 6- 8 pm in the Union Gallery (2nd floor).
All events are free and open to the public. Free parking is available on the top floor of Parking Structure 3 from 5 pm to 10 pm on the night of the reception.
