Breakthrough Sacramento is a year-round, tuition-free, college-preparatory program for an ethnically-diverse group of academically motivated students from under-resourced schools. Students with limited economic and educational opportunities attend summer sessions before seventh and eighth grade at Sacramento Country Day School, where they are taught by high school and college students considering careers in education.
Throughout the school year, the students are mentored and supported through after-school tutorials, monthly Breakthrough Saturdays, grade tracking, student newsletters, cultural opportunities, high school selection counseling and advocacy, as well as support for college applications, financial aid, and university selection. The student-program relation begins in 6th grade, continues throughout the high school years and well into college.
Members of our first class of Breakthrough students have graduated from, for example, UC Berkeley, Occidental College, CSU Sacramento, and Pomona College amongst other schools. Breakthrough is proud and excited to be offering its seventeenth summer in Sacramento in 2010 thanks to strong community support!
