Jason Richardson

Jason Richardson is a professional artist with over 30 years of experience in the art industry. He is a California-based artist whose work has been heavily influenced by the principles of modern art theory, in particular, abstract expressionism and surrealism. He draws inspiration from everyday objects and scenery, including his experiences exploring the natural beauty of California and the world.

​Jason’s journey as an artist began in his childhood. He always had a fascination with art and enjoyed creating his own unique pieces. As he grew older, he continued to pursue his passion for art but decided to complete other academic pursuits, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of California, Davis. After completing his undergraduate studies, Jason worked in several industries, but he never stopped making art. Knowing that he wanted to take his skills to the next level, so he enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

​During his graduate studies, Jason explored many modern art techniques and discovered his passion for abstract expressionism and surrealism. These two art movements and his relentless explorations have greatly influenced his work and have helped him to develop several distinctive painting styles. Jason’s work is characterized by experimenting with medium and composition and often include bold, vibrant colors, rich textures, and a sense of movement that draws the viewer in.

​In addition to abstract expressionism and surrealism, Jason is also inspired by the natural beauty of California and the world. His love of nature is reflected in many of his pieces, although not in a realistic way. Rather than just reproducing landscapes, seascapes, and other natural elements, he cuts through the composition to it break down into its base forms and color patches. He has traveled extensively throughout California and beyond, drawing inspiration from the world around him.

​Over the course of his career, Jason has been widely collected by individuals and businesses in the Sacramento area. His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and he has collaborated with many local artists.

​When asked about his creative process, Jason explains that he takes a very intuitive approach to his work. Although he often begins each piece with a sketched-out plan in mind, he allows the colors and textures to guide him as he makes the edits on the canvas. As he works, he constantly evaluates the piece, adjusting and changing the piece, as needed, until he feels that it is complete.

In addition to creating his own unique pieces, Jason also enjoys teaching and sharing his love of art with others. He has taught art classes and workshops in Sacramento, and he enjoys working with students of all ages and skill levels. He is also the CEO of a local nonprofit organization that focuses its efforts on efforts on providing art educational experiences for children.
